Cool creations make a great show

A papier mache version of the Eiffel Tower and clay models of the Terracotta Army warriors of China starred in the annual art show at Keilor Primary School.

Pupils from every year level at the school got creative for last week’s two-day event, in which more than 1000 art pieces were on show.

Art teacher Bronwyn Grant, who started the show at the school 22 years ago, said the yearly event had grown bigger and bigger since its inception.

“It started off each student submitting one piece – now each student submits two or three pieces,” she said. “The standard is absolutely fabulous.”

This year’s theme, “landmarks”, inspired works based on attractions such as Disneyland, Mount Everest and the Eiffel Tower.

Ms Grant said each year, parents were invited to buy the art works for $2 each, with the money going to the school art budget.

“It’s a great way to display the kids’ talent,” Ms Grant said.

“It’s also a really good community thing to do too; we’re known in the area for the art show.”
