Connecting refugees with services

Refugees in Brimbank had the opportunity to engage with service providers at a Refugee Week event on Thursday, June 12.

Social worker and president of Give Until It Hurts, Garnet Jacob, said refugees often face barriers when trying to connect with local agencies.

“We understand that with not speaking English and with limited family and networks here, refugees have difficulty connecting with services,” he said.

A free raffle was held and attendees were invited to wear their cultural clothing to the event.

Those interested in learning about refugees’ experiences were also invited to attend.

Refugee Week runs from June 15 to 21 and brings awareness to the challenges faced by refugees while celebrating the contributions refugees make to communities.
