A selfless Sunshine West woman has been nominated for a prestigious award.

The Awards Australia Community Hero Award acknowledges those individuals making a significant contribution at a local level in regional and rural Victoria.

Rhiannon Mustapic was nominated for the award for her role at the Youth Insearch Foundation.

Her nominator Maree May said the power of work Ms Mustapic has done spoke for itself.

“Rhiannon commenced leadership with Youth Insearch in early 2018 and has volunteered at weekend workshops (camps) to help support “at risk” youth,” Ms May said.

“Rhiannon has been a positive role model and tireless volunteer, attending workshops in the role of team member, facilitating sessions and helping new participants many who have been referred because of significant abuse, trauma, mental health and neglect issues.

“Rhiannon is helping to facilitate online support group meetings and facilitating online workshops which have been implimented due to COVID-19.”

Ms May added her work has gone a long way to helping those who need it most.

“The people who are impacted by the Youth Insearch Program are at risk youth, young people who have been impacted by trauma, neglect, sexual abuse, homelessness, parent and adolescent issues, unemployment, grief, mental health issues and drug and alcohol issues.

“The impact of this program and what Rhiannon helps to achieve is to empower young people to not feel alone in their journey and through peer mentorship, make better life choices so they can be self-driven in their own life journey and life choices.”
