Firefighters issued a community warning in Brooklyn this morning after a chemical incident in Somerville Road.
The Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) was called to plastics manufacturer Sunace Australia about 3.50am after a vat containing a chemical substance had become contaminated and was giving off smoke and vapours.
The MFB’s scientific officer and specialist Hazmat crews were called to help control the incident.

People in the immediate area were advised to keep their windows and doors shut and to seek medical advice if they felt nauseous.
An MFB spokesman said 22 firefighters attended the incident. Water was sprayed over a vessel containing between 700-to-900 kilograms of a composite organic compound to cool it and reduce the vapours being given off.
It took about 90 minutes to declare the incident under control and lift the community warning.
Sunace is a plastics additive manufacturer with sites in Brooklyn and Dandenong South.
