Community to shape Brimbank’s Reconciliation Action Plan

Brimbank council is updating its Reconciliation Action Plan and, through two community consultation sessions, is inviting community members to share their thoughts and ideas on its future.

Brimbank mayor John Hedditch said the council was keen to hear from Brimbank’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, as well as non-Aboriginal people with a commitment to reconciliation.

“Having a relevant and up-to-date reconciliation action plan is essential in making sure we are working together and being guided by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in making sure council services are culturally safe and accessible,” Cr Hedditch said.

In addition to the community consultation sessions, consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community representatives will also play an important role in developing the plan and in guiding its subsequent implementation.

Aboriginal consultant Karen Milward has been appointed to facilitate the community consultation sessions, the first of which will be held on Thursday, November 9 at the St Albans Community Centre from 5.30-7.30pm.

The second session will be held in Sunshine at the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre from 12.30 pm.
