In the spirit of Boaty McBoatface, the Brimbank Council is seeking the community’s help and creativity to name the new St Albans health and wellbeing hub.
The new hub will replace the ageing St Albans Leisure Centre and is set to feature a 50 metre 10 lane swimming pool, two massive water slides, wellness centre, 24 hour gym, community program room and more.
Mayor Georgina Papafotiou said the community is encouraged to get creative and submit a name that is meaningful, distinctive and will inspire pride of place.
“This new hub will be a meeting place for our community to swim, relax, work out, heal, learn and grow for generations to come,” Cr Papafotiou said.
“We want our community to take ownership of their new leisure, learning, aquatic, wellness and health hub by giving it a name that is meaningful to them, local and timeless.”
Works on the new hub are set to start in coming weeks, following the awarding of the construction contract in June 2020.
The facility is expected to be completed by 2022.
The council says submissions could be a word or words that acknowledge the history of the site or region, an acronym, or a combination of words.
But the name should be meaningful, distinctive, easy to remember and say.
It can acknowledge the ancient or modern history on the site or region, or be future oriented, but should reflect the community or region,
It cannot be the name of any living individual community member.
All suggestions must be provided by 11.59pm on Sunday, August 30.
