Community feedback sought for new ‘Sunshine Precinct’

The state government has released the Sunshine Station Masterplan which details the proposed new look of the station that will be implemented in combination with the new Melbourne Airport Rail link.

The masterplan is looking at turning the station into a transport superhub with the changes set to nearly double the size of the current facility.

State government is calling on people who live in, work from or visit Sunshine to have their say on the masterplan from March 8 to April 10, 2022 through five online and in-person events.

Nine separate projects will form the changes to the station including transforming one exit of the Hampshire Road Bridge from a road to footpath.

Other changes include a new integrated bus interchange which would relocate the current interchange to the east side of the station where the car park is.

People focused streets and junctions are also on the table with a proposal to create new pedestrian streets that will connect people to the town centre and improve safety.

Trees and greening is included in the masterplan to create attractive, sheltered and shaded space for the area.

Transport Infrastructure MP Jacinta Allan encouraged people to have their say on the proposals put forward.

“Off the back of major upgrades planned for Sunshine Station itself, we’re encouraging people to have their say on how we can best plan for the future of the area around the station – a future transport superhub,” Ms Allan said.

“Whether you walk, ride or take public transport – we’re asking locals near Sunshine Station to tell us what’s important to them for the future of this key connection in the west.”

St Albans MP Natalie Suleyman said community responses will be vital for the future.

“Community feedback will be critical to ensuring the planning for the future of the Sunshine Station precinct is done right.”

The community is invited to provide feedback through surveys or by attending the five available events.

There are online surveys specified to each of the nine projects which can be completed in under a few minutes each as well as one overall survey.

There will also be three online workshops beginning on March 29 and two in-person visits on March 18 and 21.
