College Koorie program recognised

The Grange P-12 College’s efforts to be inclusive and respectful have earned the school a spot at this year’s Victorian Education Excellence Awards.

Teachers and the principal at The Grange P-12 are up for the Outstanding Koorie Education Award to be announced at a ceremony later this month.

The award recognises exceptional educators who have demonstrated a commitment to developing indigenous cultural understanding, and also demonstrate respectful and inclusive teaching and learning practices to improve Koorie student achievement, engagement and wellbeing.

The college has implemented the Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan to ensure that Koorie students achieve their learning aspirations.

Koorie students at The Grange are also mentored to complete school-based traineeships that have led to employment with companies such as Qantas, ANZ Bank and Australia Post.

Tarneit MP Sarah Connolly said the college had forged stronger connections with Koorie families in the community guided by its Koorie engagement support officer.

“Teachers and principals can make all the difference when it comes to the quality of education our youth receive, so it’s fantastic to see the acknowledgement of those who go above and beyond for their students,” Ms Connolly said.

Winners will be announced on October 25. Details: www.education.vic.gov.au/veea
