Works on Alfrieda Street Civic Plaza are continuing through the COVID-19 pandemic, with the majority of upgrades completed.
Works on new feature paving and garden bed preparation, and a new mural on the substation are currently under way.
Eagle-eyed onlookers may also notice the Rotary clock has been freshly painted and will be functioning soon, while a time capsule will be installed under the Rotary plaque.
In the coming weeks, the council will be planting 23 semi-mature trees and more than 1000 understorey and ground cover plants.
New seating including raised planter walls, platform seating and picnic settings are being installed.
Brimbank mayor Georgina Papafotiou said the 1.67 million project would become an important and valued community space for the people of St Albans.
“Once completed, this project will turn the former bus interchange in Alfrieda Street into a vibrant and welcoming space for the community to share in events, and for people to socialise and relax while shopping.
“The result will be a multi-use civic space in the centre of St Albans – providing an area for larger cultural events and a safer space for social gatherings.“
“‘The project is a win for residents and ensures that St Albans continues to be a place where people want to live, work and socialise,“ Cr Papafotiou said.
The council has also upgraded the paving on St Albans Square, added planting areas and painted the raised walls with bright colours that relate to St Alban’s rich native flora and fauna qualities.
The upgrade will be unveiled to the public around mid-August.
