Two Brimbank parks are ready for play after significant upgrades.
McCoubrie Reserve in West Sunshine and Jamieson Street Reserve in
St Albans have had playgrounds, picnic areas, and pathways improved and trees planted.
Brimbank mayor Margaret Giudice said the improvements cater to the community’s wishes.
“The designs of both these parks responded directly to feedback we received from the community and residents who regularly use this space,” Cr Giudice said.
“As a community-first council, we highly value the ideas and suggestions that have helped to make these fantastic parks.
“This is important work – we know that improvements to local parks have a real and measurable impact on park use and levels of physical activity – supporting everyone in our community to live healthy and active lives.”
The $450,000 Jamieson Street Reserve upgrades include a new playground with a large climbing tower, slides, a swing set, a spinner, musical instruments, an outdoor gym area and a basketball key.
It also includes a new park shelter, improved paths, an electric barbecue and more than 100 new trees and 2000 new plants.
The McCoubrie Reserve upgrade, which totalled $75,000 included a new playground, swing set, junior slide, a picnic setting, improved paths and 48 new trees.
The upgrades were completed as part of the council’s Creating Better Parks Policy and Plan.
Since the plan was adopted in 2008, 99 parks across Brimbank have been upgraded at the cost of $26.5 million.
