Charges over Burnside gym owner shooting

A Glen Waverley man has been arrested today over the alleged attempted murder of Derrimut gym owner, Nikolaos Solomos, in Burnside last year.

The 25-year-old man was arrested in Springvale this morning and will face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

A $100,000 reward had been offered for information to help solve the attempted murder on May 21.

Acting Sergeant Melissa Seach said earlier this month detectives were told the victim parked outside a house in Mockridge Avenue about 5.40pm when a man wearing a mask approached his car.

“The unknown man approached the driver’s side of the victim’s car and fired a number of shots, from what is believed to be a handgun, through the window,” she said.

“The gun shots missed the man and he was treated for minor injuries from the shattered glass.”
