The Keilor Park Devils hope to expand their female football stocks with the introduction of new purpose-built changerooms.
Member for Niddrie Ben Carroll last week announced that the state government would support the construction of female-friendly facilities at the club with $250,000 from its Female-Friendly Facilities Fund.
Mr Carroll said the new rooms will make the world of difference as female involvement in local sports continues to grow.
“More women than ever before are signing up for local sports teams – but many clubs like the Devils are being held back by outdated or non-existent facilities,” he said.
“We’re proud to be making sport accessible to everyone.
“These new changerooms are game-changing. Devils women and girls can say goodbye to changing in facilities that aren’t fit for purpose, and focus on playing the sport they love.”
Keilor Park’s changerooms, umpires’ room and social toilets will be reconfigured and upgraded as part of the project, giving women and girls better facilities.
It is hoped the upgrade will encourage more women to get involved in the club.
Since 2014, more than $630 million has been invested in community sport and recreation facilities across Victoria as part of the Female-Friendly Facilities Fund.
