After years of work, the Hampshire Road master plan is complete and residents are encouraged to celebrate.

Brimbank council is holding a community celebration on Friday night as the final part of the plan, the civic green, is officially opened.

The master plan, implemented in 2014, has transformed Hampshire Road between Bennett Place and Devonshire Road, creating a shaded area for the community to come together to eat, socialise and relax.

Upgrades also include new feature paving, a lawn area, trees, better seating and lighting and space for larger community events and footpath trading.

Friday’s free celebration event will include live music, bright neon displays, roving performances, special lighting, kids craft, a silent disco, displays and much more.

Official proceedings include a plaque unveiling to take place from 5.15pm.

Brimbank mayor Cr Ranka Rasic said the council was encouraging people to join in the celebrations and see what the area has to offer.

“Whether you live in Sunshine, or visit nearby, come along and celebrate the opening of the new Civic Green space on Hampshire Road,” she said.

“It’s a welcoming and safe space for social gatherings, larger community events, and an area where shoppers can stay a little longer, meet friends, relax and enjoy their shopping.

“The improvements are another way to encourage people to think, shop, buy and dine local, and by doing so support their favourite restaurants and businesses, and boost local economic activity.”

The event will run from 5pm to 9pm.
