St Albans Heights Primary School is celebrating half a century of shaping young minds.
School principal Helen Otway said a big celebration is planned for next Wednesday to celebrate the occasion.
“We’re going to have dancers, parades, speeches, multicultural food and old photos that date back to the 1980s on display,” Ms Otway said. “We’ll have old staff and students here. It’s going to be a huge celebration.”
The school has evolved over the years, but Ms Otway said it’s never lost sight of its core values.
“When I came here four years ago one of the things I was told is that this is very much a family, community-based school.
“I think we’ve added to that foundation by using technology, having a great curriculum,” she said. “The way we develop our curriculum is very much respectful of all the different cultures we have here.
“We aim to enrich and enhance, but we also want to broaden our students’ experience too.”
The school’s office manager Carole Murador was a student of St Albans Heights in the 1970s. She returned in a professional capacity at the start of the millennium and said much has changed.
“The grounds are a lot nicer than I remember and the culture is a lot different. The school was also a bit bigger back then,” she said.
The 50th birthday celebrations will run from 5-8pm March 28.
