Niddrie MP Ben Carroll says he’s extremely proud to be re-elected for another term as the Labor Party remains in government.
Mr Carroll, who was first elected to the seat in 2012 in by-election, had 57.39 per cent of the vote on a two-party preferred basis with 70 per cent of the votes counted.
Currently it’s a swing of 5.1 per cent to the Liberal Party.
After 70 per cent of the votes were counted, Carroll had received 45.30 per cent of first preferences, a negative swing of 9.6 per cent from the last election.
The Liberal party’s Alan Youhana has received 33.5 per cent first preferences after 70 per cent of the count.
Mr Carroll said he was relieved and happy to continue to represent Niddrie which includes, Keilor Lodge, Keilor, Keilor Park and part of Taylors Lakes.
“The silent majority have spoken,” he said. “There was a lot of noise at the pre-polling centres.
“I’m relieved and very proud. I’m sitting pretty well compared to some of the other electorates.
“I’ve overwhelming been re-endorsed with a similar margin, with only a little bit of skin.
“I’m looking forward to the next four years.”
Mr Carroll said the item that he is most proud of securing and looking forward to seeing being build is a train station at Keilor East.
He said it’s part of a really important project.
Among Mr Carroll’s election promises was some funding for the Keilor Sports Club to help upgrade Joe Brown Reserve in Keilor.
