Commuters using Deer Park station had reason to smile last week with work completed on new carpark spaces.
Kororoit MP Marlene Kairouz announced the completion of the project last week, the 272 new carpark spaces more than doubling the existing capacity.
Ms Kairouz said the upgrades would help alleviate stress at the station being generated by the area’s booming population.
“The west is growing and we are planning for the future by getting Deer Park Station these 272 extra spaces,” Ms Kairouz said.
“With more people parking at the station, it will ease pressure on key local roads and residential streets.”
The work – including installation of new lighting, line markings, CCTV and signage to improve safety and station access – began in June, 2016.
The works were completed as part of the $20 million Station Car Park Upgrades Program, through which more than 2100 extra parking spaces are being provided at regional and metropolitan train stations.
The Deer Park carparks come almost a year after Brimbank council introduced two-hour parking limits in nearby streets in a bid to
stop commuters clogging residential areas.
The new carparks also come soon after the addition of 219 extra weekly off-peak and morning services for Deer Park passengers.
