Caroline Springs residents’ healthy appetite for a Bunnings sausage sizzle has paid off for the RSL.
After two years of weekly barbecues and Friday night raffles, the Caroline Springs RSL has been able to buy its very own mini bus.
RSL president Peter Burquest said fundraising efforts during the past couple of years had raised $20,000, enough for the club to buy the vehicle outright.
“It’s only a second-hand bus we bought from the Greensborough RSL,” he said.
“Hopefully, it’s not a dud,” he laughed.
The RSL committee is in the process of transferring the registration, and hopes to have the bus on the road next month.
“We’ll take small groups on little trips and it will enable the welfare officials to pick up people from nursing homes and take them on drives,” Mr Burquest said.
The bus will also be used to take the RSL’s 175 financial members on trips to memorials.
