Relay for Life teams start fundraising campaign

When Nicole Tresize battled non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma 18 years ago, she says community support would have gone a long way to help her cope.

So when the opportunity arose, the Taylors Hill woman jumped at the chance to get involved with Caroline Springs Relay for Life.

“When you’re battling cancer, you can feel alone,” Ms Tresize said.

“The Relay for Life is a great way to get out there and get the message out there that people are not alone.

“It’s great to see survivors doing it because it gives sufferers hope – ‘if that person has survived, so can I’.”

The Caroline Springs Relay for Life event, which raises funds for Cancer Council Victoria, will be at the Burnside Heights Recreation Reserve on September 16 and 17 but the fundraising has already begun.

This week the Caroline Springs Relay for Life committee will host a ‘Dine and Disco’ night.

The family-friendly event on Friday, April 15, starts at 6.30pm at WestWaters Hotel, 10 Lake Street, Caroline Springs.

Tickets cost $35 for adults and $15 for children. The cover price includes a three-course meal, entertainment and ‘disco bingo’.

Ms Tresize said the event was a way of getting people excited and being able to “lift the taboos about the disease … [by] opening up a conversation”.
