Career program graduates empowered

A group of experienced carers in the Brimbank area has recently graduated from the Your Career Your Way program — an initiative that helps career seekers and locals to become job ready.

The eight-week program — delivered by the Victoria University Skills and Jobs Centre in partnership with Brimbank council — prepares participants with necessary skills to enter or re-enter the workforce, and provides them with opportunities to access employment opportunities.

One of the recent graduates has already secured a job.

While the program offers practical skills-development opportunities in resume writing and interview preparation, program facilitator Dianne Debrincat, said the initiative goes further by helping individuals develop confidence and self-belief.

“It’s not just about job preparation — it’s about understanding what’s important to you and helping you confidently pursue the path that’s right. Many participants gain not only skills and clarity, but friendships and networks that continue well beyond the program,” she said.

“I put my heart and soul into delivering the program and being able to empower and support carers in such a valuable way is a small way of giving back to people who truly deserve it.

“To see someone arrive overwhelmed by anxiety and leave feeling confident—it’s the most rewarding part.”

The program’s next round will commence on July 30.
