Beautification of Alfrieda Street is on the agenda for an independent voice in the state election.
Jenny Isa, who is running as an independent candidate for St Albans in this month’s poll, said the strip was in dire need of an upgrade.
“Alfrieda Street is the heart of the St Albans community,” Ms Isa said.
“I’m going to propose that the entirety of Alfrieda Street is upgraded, not just one section.”
Ms Isa said reducing carparking and breathing fresh life into dated buildings would be key.
“I’d like to see something similar to what’s happened in Sunshine and Hampshire Road,” she said.
“I think Woolworths has almost outgrown that building, so if we can get them on board we unlock a lot of potential.”
Brimbank council is planning a new civic plaza in Alfrieda Street following the success of a pop-up park set up last year.
But Ms Isa has some concerns.
“I think it’s a great idea, but there’s a few issues with bus access and traffic that I think the current design has,” she said.
“We’ve had the level crossing removed and I just want the flow-on benefits from that to be maximised.”
