The Salvation Army Sunshine is calling the community to support its Red Shield Appeal as demands grow for its services and more support is needed.

The Salvation Army provides social services like emergency financial assistance, homeless shelters, longer-term housing, youth drop-in centres and support programs for those in need.

Salvation Army Sunshine captain Colin Reynolds hopes that the support can continue as the demand for these services has grown in recent times.

“My final appeal would be this… as the impact of natural disasters, COVID-19 and the increased cost of living continues to affect people and families across our local community here in Brimbank, we continue to see a larger demand on our services,” Mr Reynolds said.

“The Salvation Army asks you to help us leave no one in need by supporting the Red Shield Appeal.”

“Community members here in the west can support the Red Shield Appeal by making a donation directly at one of our five static-collection points: Sunshine Marketplace, Highpoint Shopping Centre, Bunnings Sunshine, Bunnings Maribyrnong and Bunnings Caroline Springs.

Mr Reynolds said all donations went back into the community to provide much needed services.

“People often ask “where does all the money go?” when it comes to The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal,” he said.

“All donations made to The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal go back into the local community.

“Every 17 seconds, The Salvation Army in Australia helps someone at one of our many services or community-based programs.

“This only happens because of the public’s generous support of the Red Shield Appeal.

“Here in the City of Brimbank, donations to the Red Shield Appeal primarily go to housing/homelessness programs and emergency food relief programs.”

Mr Reynolds also said the Salvation Army was always in need of volunteers which was another avenue people could support the movement.

“Sunshine Salvos are always in need of the assistance of volunteers to partner with us in building a healthy community in Brimbank,” he said.

“We would value your help at this time – please contact Sunshine Salvos on 93649335 to receive more information about volunteering at Sunshine Salvos.”
