The Red Cross is calling for Brimbank volunteers to take up a leading role in supporting emergency relief efforts this summer.
With summer fast approaching, Red Cross manager emergency services Kate Siebert said volunteers were in demand.
“Australia is prone to a range of natural disasters and emergencies – from bushfires and floods to cyclones – and every year thousands of people across the country are affected in some way,” Ms Siebert said.
“Here at home in Victoria, people turn to the Red Cross for assistance in a disaster. During such times, our volunteers provide those affected with much-needed emotional and practical support.
“With drier than average conditions, hotter temperatures and increased fire danger, Red Cross is ramping up efforts and recruiting teams of volunteers to help communities before, during and after emergencies.
“There’s a range of roles available for volunteeers.
“Whether you’re someone who wants to help local people in the aftermath of an emergency, or take a lead role in managing a team of volunteers and even representing Red Cross at important community meetings, we encourage you to apply,” Ms Siebert said.
If you would like to apply for a role, visit redcross.org.au/volunteer and search for Victoria or contact 1800 232 969.
