A Cairnlea cabbie is about to become a star.
Hi Lay will feature alongside celebrity chef Anna Gare in the new series Anna Gare’s Cab Fare.
Each week Gare goes on a cab ride and as she gets to know her driver, collects recipes and stories about culture and inclusivity.
Lay will appear in episode three of the series and introduces Gare to her Cambodian heritage through some of her favourite dishes – a roast eggplant recipe and a sweet and sour soup with a Cambodian-inspired green mango salad.
Lay said appearing on a TV show is something she never thought she’d do.
“It was an honour to be featured on
Anna Gare’s Cab Fare and share my story,” she said.
“Being a 13cabs driver is a great career. I’m always getting to meet all kinds of people, but I never imagined it would lead to me being on TV.
“I’m really excited to see my episode air and will be tuning in with my friends and family.”
Lay’s episode screens at 12.30pm on Saturday, October 27 on Nine and 9GEM.
Gare said the conversations she shared with the drivers during filming were eye-opening.
“Working with the 13cabs drivers has been a fantastic experience – the idea for the show was born from inspiring conversations I have had with drivers from all sorts of unique and diverse walks of life.
“The show uncovers traditional dishes from the driver’s homeland, while importantly delving into their personal experiences in transitioning their lives to Australia from countries all over the world like Pakistan, Afghanistan, France, Cambodia, Somalia, Lebanon and the Middle East just to name a few.
“I hope through watching the show others are inspired to have conversations with their cab drivers, whether it’s about the driver’s story, or their favourite traditional dishes.”
