A fleet of new hybrid technology buses will soon be rolled out on Brimbank roads.
All 50 buses in the hybrid fleet will be in service on routes used by bus operator CDC in Wyndham, Oakleigh and Sunshine by mid-2022.
The first bus was launched in Melbourne last week and will be followed by another 30 buses being phased in over the next 12 months.
They’ll be used on Brimbank bus routes including the 408, 605, 630 and 414.
CDC Victoria chief executive Nicholas Yap said it was an exciting initiative.
“Our new fleet of hybrid buses is an exciting development which demonstrates our ongoing commitment to delivering transport innovation by reducing both the emissions and fuel consumption of our fleet,” he said.
“As a business, we’re deeply committed to helping shape a better future for the next generation through reducing our carbon footprint.”
The buses are expected to deliver significant reductions in emissions, noise and fuel consumption as well as improving the passenger experience.
A series of successful trials across the state found that the buses use 30 per cent less fuel and significantly reduce noise during idling and when departing stops.
