One of the most sought-after prizes in world sport was wheeled into Keilor’s Overnewton Anglican Community College last week.
The English Premier League Trophy and the English Football League Cup won by Manchester City in 2017-18 visited the college as part of a global tour.
Overnewton head of sport Nikki Little said the visit was possible through the school’s relationship with the Melbourne City Football Club.
“We’re really proud to have an affiliation with Melbourne City as part of the Melbourne City College of football program,” she said.
“Our partnership provides students with unique football opportunities like this one.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring the trophy out to Australia. It has a couple security guards watching over it.”
The trophies were accompanied by former Manchester City player Paul Dickov.
Dickov made 174 appearances for City over two stints and is credited for scoring the club’s greatest ever goal as voted by fans.
Dickov said it was a thrill to take the cup around the world.
“Today we’re in Australia, last week we were in China and the week before that we were in India,” he said.
“It’s a great way of saying thank you to the fans and bringing something to these communities that they wouldn’t normally get to see.”
