Public art could be included in key capital works projects over the next five years.
The Brimbank council unveiled its draft Brimbank Art Policy and Plan 2018-2023, which highlights a number of priority projects.
The Lakes Reserve (Taylors Lakes), Isabella Williams Memorial Reserve Bike Path (Deer Park), St Albans Leisure Centre (Keilor Downs), Buckingham Reserve (West Sunshine), Cliff Harvey Lagoon Reserve (Keilor) and town centre upgrades and urban projects in St Albans and Sunshine have all been listed as priority projects to consider the inclusion of permanent public art.
Brimbank mayor Margaret Giudice said the draft plan would guide how the council incorporates permanent and temporary public art installations into spaces across Brimbank.
“Public art helps us to connect with the places we live, work and visit. Importantly, it can also prompt us to pause and reflect on our heritage, neighbourhoods, communities and aspirations,” Cr Giudice said.
“We are fortunate to already have some wonderful public art in Brimbank – from John Kelly’s
Man lifting cow in Hampshire Road, Sunshine, to the Seeds of Hopes and Dreams sculpture in St Albans Square, and the Spiral graph seat in Derrimut.
“This draft plan sets out a vision for community and public spaces.”
