The Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) Brimbank Unit are recruiting new members who will have the chance to have an enriching and fulfilling experience as volunteers.

Recruiting is underway for the August 2022 intake which will provide an opportunity to new recruits to learn new skills, develop close friendships and experience new challenges while helping your local community.

Almost half of the 630 calls received by the Brimbank SES Unit last year were during storms that hit the community in the last week of October 2022.

In total 312 calls were received in the time from the group fully run by volunteers.

VICSES Brimbank Unit also supports other emergency services including Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police, as well as deploying to other communities across Australia during times of need.

VICSES Brimbank Unit Controller Bernie Thatcher said the opportunity brought good rewards.

“Volunteering with VICSES has been such a rewarding experience,” Mr Thatcher said.

“The VICSES Brimbank Unit is a great place to meet new and interesting people while supporting your community.

“It’s terrific to see a new member develop new skills and do things they never imagined, it’s what makes volunteering with VICSES so rewarding.”

The role entails training and dedication to making the community safer – 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Volunteers train one night per week and are on call to respond two nights a week with other opportunities to attend fundraising and community education events.

The SES Brimabnk Unit deals with floods, storms, search and rescue and much more with positions for everyone at VICSES.
