Brimbank says welcome

A new campaign designed to celebrate Brimbank’s diversity has been launched ahead of a week of cultural celebrations.

The Welcome We Are Brimbank campaign features a slick promotional video.

Brimbank mayor Margaret Giudice said it was a chance to highlight what made Brimbank such a vibrant multicultural hub, with more than 160 languages spoken in the municipality.

“Brimbank is one of the most dynamic constituencies in the west,” Cr Giudice said.

“There is such a wealth of different languages and cultures represented here that it makes for a vibrant and engaging place to live and this is something we feel is worth shouting about.

“The Welcome We Are Brimbank campaign and video has given us an opportunity to shine a light on the benefits of living in an integrated and multicultural environment.”

One of the first events of the campaign was the launch of a pop-up cafe in St Albans for Culture and Diversity Week. The cafe, offering food from a range of local traders, will run in Alfrieda Street, from March 23 to 25.

The cafe will run for three hours each day with all food and drink costs covered by the council.

“Whether it’s being able to access a wide range of different cuisines, learning to enjoy new and different forms of entertainment or educating our younger generations, we want to show people just how much Brimbank has to offer,” Cr Giudice said.

“I look forward to welcoming both locals and visitors to our international cafe event and hope that it will encourage everyone to engage and support their neighbours.

“It’s our goal to make Brimbank a place where people can enjoy living, working and having fun in and this is just the beginning.”
