Brimbank residents are being encouraged to get a free flu jab this month to protect themselves and their family from flu this winter.

The state government is providing free influenza vaccinations for everyone aged six months and over until June 30.

Cases of flu in Victoria have increased by more than 30 per cent in the past week, from 10,000 to 15,000, according to Brimbank council.

Community members can visit one of council’s pop-up vaccination hubs which are offering free flu and COVID-19 shots (no bookings needed) or contact their local GP or community pharmacy to book their free flu vaccine.

Anyone with cold and flu symptoms should get tested for COVID-19 and remain at home until their symptoms have resolved – regardless of whether it turns out to be COVID-19 or flu. People who test positive for COVID-19 must isolate for seven days from the date of their result.

Mayor Jasmine Nguyen said: “I encourage everyone in our Brimbank community to help protect themselves and their families by getting the free flu jab this month.

“It’s really easy to get your free flu jab – just visit one of our Pop-Up vaccination hubs, no appointments are required. Or you can also contact your local GP or community pharmacy to book yourself in.

“You can help everyone stay safe this winter by getting vaccinated for both the flu and COVID-19. And remember to please get tested if you have any symptoms and stay home if you feel unwell.”
