Brimbank reintroduces snake catching service

Brimbank’s snake-catching service is back.

The free service, scrapped two years ago due to budget pressures, is available seven days a week, including after hours.

Brimbank mayor John Hedditch said the service had been brought back following public demand and to offer residents peace of mind.

“We’re now well and truly into spring – the time of year when snakes are likely to start making their presence known,” he said.

“We’ve introduced this no-charge service to provide residents with the peace of mind.

“If a snake does decide to visit their home, we have a professional service available to remove and relocate the snake.”

Residents who find themselves faced with a snake this summer are advised to remain calm and maintain a safe distance from the animal.

“If you do see a snake, stay calm, walk away safely – taking any pets with you – and call us,” Cr Hedditch said.

“Be sure to keep an eye on the snake from a safe distance.

“It’s also important to tell your kids that if they see a snake, to stay calm, walk away and tell an adult straight away.”

The service is available for residential properties and can be accessed by calling 9249 4000.
