The Friends of Kororoit Creek are all fired up for another crack at Clean Up Australia Day.

While there are dozens of different clean-ups planned for Brimbank, one of the largest will take place at Selwyn Park, where the Friends of Kororoit Creek will run a rubbish pick-up.

Event organiser Jodie Williams said the group had teamed up with the council’s environment department and was hoping to emulate the success of previous years.

“Selwyn Park has been a big event the past couple of years,” Ms Williams said.

“I think we picked up 240 large bags of rubbish last year … it certainly makes a big difference.”

Clean Up Australia Day had an estimated 526,268 volunteers nationally last year and removed 13,933 tonnes of rubbish at 6333 sites across the country.

Ms Williams said it was important to encourage locals to keep their neighbourhoods clean all year round.

“We do try and make people aware of everyday responsibility,” she said. “A little effort from everyone really does go a long way.”

The event will be held on Sunday, March 5 from 10am-noon at Selwyn Park, 1 Selwyn Street, Albion. Meet at 1 Selwyn Street, Albion.
