Brimbank will look to become a more appealing tourism destination under a new strategy proposed by the council.
A draft of the Experience Brimbank Visitor Strategy was endorsed at last week’s Brimbank council meeting and will be put forward for public consultation.
Cr Virginia Tachos said the strategy was an effective way to showcase the best of Brimbank.
“Having come off the launch of the We Are Brimbank campaign, there is an invigoration surrounding the perception of the kind of people we have in Brimbank,” she said.
“The message is simple yet so clear. We are a diverse, engaging, inspirational place to live, work and play.
“However, a message we have not conveyed well in the past is why it’s a great destination for people to visit.”
Under the strategy, natural attractions such as the Maribyrnong River corridor will be better used and promoted.
Throughout the five-year plan, the council will create a brand story, improve the area’s image through raised awareness and engage with the community and businesses to develop tourism opportunities.
The public consultation period will run for four weeks.
