The number of COVID-19 cases in Brimbank rose by four over the weekend.
A total of 16 cases have now been confirmed within the municipality.
It comes as the number of cases across Victoria continue to rocket, with 56 confirmed in the past 24 hours.
The alarming spike in numbers prompted the state government to enforce stage three of lockdown measure this morning.
From midnight tonight, gatherings of more than two people will be banned, except for members of your immediate household and for work or education purposes.
Premier Daniel Andrews said there are only four valid reasons for people to leave their homes: food and supplies, medical care, exercise, and work or education.
People who breach the directions will face on-the-spot fines of $1,652 for individuals and $9,913 for businesses.
Larger fines can also be issued through the courts.
Skate parks, playgrounds and outdoor gyms will also be closed, while residents over 70 have been urged to self-isolate
“Most Victorians are doing the right thing and I’m grateful to them. But we continue to see instances of people gathering in significant numbers so we must do more,” Mr Andrews said.
“That’s why we are also restricting gatherings to no more than two people, except for members of your immediate household and for work or education.
“To flatten the curve, we are all going to have to sacrifice a lot. But it may be the most important thing we ever do.”
