Brimbank council’s CEO resigns

Paul Younis informed council staff of his resignation on Wednesday morning.

Brimbank council’s chief executive officer Paul Younis has resigned.

Council staff were informed of Mr Younis’ impending departure this morning.

He will leave Brimbank to take up a role with Transport for Victoria, a state government agency that manages all public transit, including trains, trams and buses, and VicRoads.
Mr Younis has been appointed the agency’s deputy secretary for asset and network development.

He will depart the council in early July following seven years of service. Mr Younis was director of infrastructure and environment, before being appointed chief executive officer in 2015 folllowing the resignation of Bill Jaboor.

He had previously held the position of chief executive officer with Corangamite council for two years, and had 20 years of experience in a range of senior management positions, including as acting chief executive with Buloke shire council for six months.

Mr Younis said he “agonised” over the decision to leave the council’s most senior position.
“Brimbank has seen a lot of change since I arrived in 2010,” he said. “I’m extremely proud of the work we’ve been able to achieve, and I also know there is still a lot to be done. Brimbank is in an exciting transitional phase.”

“While I am sad to be leaving this great organisation and great city, this new role was a once in a lifetime opportunity I couldn’t pass up.

“I certainly will be thinking of Brimbank in my new role that focuses on statewide investment in transport with the goal of improving mobility and connectedness for communities across Victoria,” Mr Younis said.

Mayor John Hedditch said it was with regret that he accepted Mr Younis’ resignation.

“While initially disappointed, I am glad that someone with such a practical and unique understanding of the importance of effective transport network connections will be overseeing this important statewide portfolio,” Cr Hedditch said.

“Transport in all its forms is a major issue for Brimbank and the growing west – he can expect a visit from me in his new office very soon.

“On behalf of the councillors, staff and the community in Brimbank we wish him the very best.”
