A countback to decide a new Brimbank councillor will occur on January 23.
Brimbank council confirmed that Trung Luu has resigned from his position as councillor in the Harvester ward after being elected to the upper house of the Victorian parliament.
Due to being elected, he’s no longer eligible to be a councillor.
Brimbank council said that a countback will now be undertaken by the Victorian Electoral Commission for a new councillor to be sworn in to represent Harvester Ward to fill the extraordinary vacancy.
This countback will be held at 10am on January 23 at 10am, based on voting undertaken at the 2020 Brimbank council election.
Brimbank Mayo Bruce Lancashire said they congratulate Mr Luu on his election to state parliament.
“On behalf of council –and the community – I thank Trung for his service to Brimbank since his election in 2020.
“We look forward to working with Mr Luu in his capacity as a Member for the Western Metropolitan Region, and to welcoming and working with the candidate who is successful in filling the vacancy following the countback.”
