Brimbank Community and Civic Centre officially opens its doors

A new era began in Sunshine yesterday as the $52 million Brimbank Community and Civic Centre officially opened its doors to the public.

Brimbank council unveiled the centre’s new library – stretched over two floors, with free Wi-Fi, a toy library and collections in English and ten different languages – at a special ceremony yesterday.

Residents were also invited to see a Sunshine Harvester Machine suspended from the roof on the first floor.

Chair of administrators John Watson said the building was “designed with (the) community in mind”.

“This is the community’s building,” he said.

“It’s quite literally a one-stop shop for all your council inquiries.”

Community meeting rooms will not be available until this Sunday.

The centre will hold it’s first council meeting on August 16.

A community open day will be held on August 14 from 10.30am to 2pm.
