Brimbank CEO Bill Jaboor resigns

Brimbank council chief executive Bill Jaboor will leave his position in October.

Mr Jaboor announced today after 46 years in the local government sector, the time was right to step down.

“After a 46 year career in local government I have decided it is time for my life to take a different direction,” he said.

“When I was appointed in 2012,  I had originally planned to stay long enough to assist the new Council and the organisation with the transition back to elected representatives.

“Since the proposed March 2015 election was delayed I have been considering the timing and with several key projects well underway, I feel that now is the best time to make my move.

“This will allow sufficient time for a new CEO to settle into the role and to ensure the organisation remains well placed to serve the community and newly elected councillors.

“Throughout my career I have really enjoyed working in local government and in particular my time at Brimbank has been exciting and given me the opportunity of working with a team of very talented people.

“Despite its many challenges, it’s very rewarding – every time you open a new community facility, provide a new service, complete a park upgrade, or even add new meals to the meals on wheels service, you know in some way you are improving the quality of life of your residents.

“To finish my career in Brimbank with its diversity, sense of community and changing landscape, well, it just doesn’t get much better than that.”

Chair of the Panel of Administrators John Watson said that he had regretfully accepted Mr Jaboor’s resignation but understood his decision.

“Bill has carefully thought through the transition and in making this decision has ensured that we will have a CEO comfortably in place and a stable organisation focused on the community and support for the return of Councillors,” he said.

“I wish to publicly thank him for his careful consideration of the best interests of the community.”

Mr Watson said he was confident that a suitable replacement would be found.

“The organisation is  stable and very well placed, we are implementing long term strategies to guide future investment into the provision of community and sporting facilities, the upgrade of Councils parks and open spaces is progressing and we have a prudent long term financial strategy,” he said.

“Brimbank has a very exciting future, and I am sure we will be able to attract a suitable candidate.”
