Artistic freedom and young learning were on show at the The Gallery In Me exhibition last week.

The exhibition included works from young Brimbank residents aged between nine and 12, which they had created during a series of workshops.

Lise Kaufman, who runs the workshops and the exhibition, said it was a good way to let the children get creative without being restrictive.

“It’s a self-led program, we don’t teach them anything,” she said.

“We support them to discover themselves and there’s a lot of peer leading. A lot of them don’t identify as artists.

“We wanted them to have that freedom and trust from us to control the piece.”

Ms Kaufman said this was the second exhibition from the program and it included students who were involved in the first exhibition.

“This time the Hunt Club wanted to exhibit some of the work,” she said.

“We decided to do some workshops and bring in additional kids.

“We brought back the older ones in a mentor role, as the next stage of the project.

“At the end, they were able to hang their own artwork in the live exhibition.”

Ms Kaufman said some of the art work would now go on display at the Sunshine Youth Space.
