Four Braybrook schools are among the big winners after the state government allocated an extra $8 million in education funding for 50 of Brimbank’s schools.

Western English Language School ($540,095), Braybrook College ($504,336), Dinjerra Primary $141,710) and Rosamond Special School ($52,862) shared in the additional funding following consultations over the past few months.

“This was money received in the budget, but it had remained unallocated,” state MP for St Albans, Natalie Suleyman, said.

Altogether, 19 Brimbank schools in the St Albans electorate will share in $2.6 million; 12 schools in Kororoit will split $2.2 million; 10 in Footscray will share $2.2 million; eight in Sydenham will share $1.1million; and one in Niddrie will get $40,469 extra next year.

Eight schools in the Niddrie electorate shared in $600,000.

A spokeswoman for Niddrie MP Ben Carroll said many Brimbank residents sent their children to schools in the electorate.

Sunshine Harvester Primary School ($455,750), Deer Park North Primary ($471,479) and Kings Park Primary ($427,182) were also big winners.

Braybrook College principal Kelly Panousieris said the funding would boost literacy and numeracy programs.

“Mixed-ability classes, catering for each individual ability, can’t be done without this kind of funding,” she said.

“We can set short-term targets rather than a class target. Students can work at their own level.”
