Braybrook man charged after allegedly ramming three police cars

Melbourne detectives charged a man with a string of offences after he allegedly rammed three police vehicles with an allegedly stolen vehicle.

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged a 25 year-old Braybrook man with a number of offences after he allegedly rammed three police vehicles with an allegedly stolen car in South Yarra on Monday, October 3.

Sergeant Julie-Anne Newman said the man has been charged with three counts each of aggravated intentional exposure of police officer to risk by driving a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated intentional exposure of police officer to risk by driving recklessly to damage emergency service vehicle and reckless conduct endangering serious injury.

“He was also charged with theft of motor vehicle, handle stolen goods, disqualified driving, commit indictable offence whilst on bail and other bail offences,” she said.

“The charges follow an incident…where an allegedly stolen white Mazda was spotted by police in Church Street, Richmond at about 3pm.

“As police closed in on the driver, after he ran a red light and due to his manner of driving, he allegedly rammed three police vehicles in Claremont Street in an attempt to get away.”

Sergeant Newman said police arrested the man after police deployed capsicum spray.

“The police members were not injured,” she said.

The Braybrook man appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday, October 4.
