The Braybrook Football Club will host its annual Anzac Day clash in the Western Regional Football League division three competition, ten years after the club brought the match to the league for the first time.
The club will visit the Sunshine RSL in the morning where players will attend the Dawn Service and representatives would then come to the match later on in the day.
In between the reserves and senior men’s games on the day, a service will be conducted including the last post and a minute’s silence with the cadets.
Attendees including RSL representatives, members of local state government and community will be able to lay wreaths.
Braybrook’s new club president Anthony Dunlop said the idea to have the match was a new initiative brought into the league that came from the club’s president in 2012, Paul May.
“The president at the time, Paul May, brought up the idea with the league and they were happy for us to do that, find another club that was happy to play us and we did and it has been an ongoing thing ever since,” Dunlop said.
“Since then even the other divisions have come on board and I think division one and two play on those days as well.
This year Braybrook will play host to the Wyndham Suns Football Club for the match beginning at 2:15 at Pennell Reserve.
Dunlop who has been at the club since 1998 and played over 280 games said a strong crowd is expected.
“We’re lucky enough this year that in our division three of the league, we’re the only game to be on Anzac day for that division so generally you get a decent crowd come down and watch from other teams,” he said.
