A newly opened parents’ room at a Braybrook shopping centre has been given a last-minute splash of colour and inspiration from a talented local artist and his protege.

The finishing touches to a mural in the Central West shopping centre room were made by Braybrook artist Bonsai and Make Your Mark competition winner Hannah Wilson on June 18.

The entrants – children aged 10 to 15 – were nominated by their parents and asked to say in 25 words or less which Australian bird they would chose to feature in the new mural, with the most creative entry winning free lessons for the artist.

“I feel over the moon about winning; it’s all very exciting,” said Hannah, who chose the helmeted honeyeater because of the endangered bird’s care for its young.

As part of her prize, she enjoyed a one-on-one hour workshop with Bonsai as they finished the new mural. She also scored an art lesson with Braybrook’s Amanda Neville.
