Boss sleeps rough

A Ravenhall executive and former army reservist will call on his experience while sleeping rough next month to help raise money for those without permanent homes.

Hi Voltage Karts chief executive Jamie Meizer will take part in St Vinnie’s CEO Sleepout in Melbourne on June 23.

He will sleep under the stars with only a cardboard box, beanie and minimal clothing for comfort.

Mr Meizer said he had spent “many nights in the cold with little to keep me warm” so he was prepared for a long night.

“They were tough nights [as a reservist], but all I had to do was just get through the night or two and then I would be back to warm showers and a bed,” he said.

“I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for someone living like this from night to night while also dealing with the reasons that forced them there.”

He said the sleepout was in line with his company’s core values of being socially responsible and supporting the community.

“At Hi Voltage, we have a number of employees who were previously on the long-term unemployed list.”

For customers who are keen to support the St Vinnie’s charity, Hi Voltage Karts is holding a raffle that will run until June 24.

Every dollar raised through the raffle will go to providing crucial assistance to people experiencing homelessness.
