A blizzard of colours to celebrate diversity

It’s another sign of Brimbank’s diversity standing strong.

Sunshine Primary School pupils joined forces with a few talented Brimbank artists to brighten up one of Sunshine’s better known gardens with a new art installation.

Twenty-four bamboo poles were painted by pupils under the guidance of local artists Saidin Salkic, Georgie Mattingley and Debbie Qadri. The three-metre poles were officially unveiled last Thursday at their new home in RT Pollard Gardens, with each pole decorated to represent a person or group.

The poles are part of a nine-month program, which runs until May, aimed at transforming the gardens into a virtual leisure centre.

“Many poles are titled ‘Bamboo Poles in the Blizzard’, visually telling the story of the vibrant colours of Brimbank diversity, excitingly covered with the imaginary snow blizzard,” Saidin said.

“Each of them in a way tell a different story and evoke different sensations.

It was a wonderful experience seeing all the children help painting them with incredible joy.”
