Big names ride Tullamarine waves

Australia’s first wave pool surfing event will be held at Tullamarine’s Urbnsurf this weekend.

The Melrose Drive surf park has joined forces with Surfing Victoria for the 2020 Melbourne Pool Party.

The event will bring together Victoria’s top surfers for the state’s first surfing competition in a wave pool.

It will feature DJs, food trucks and more then $4000 in prizes.

Surfing Victoria chief executive Adam Robertson said 60 of Victoria’s top surfers would be invited to take part, based on state rankings.

He said the event format will mimic a competitive snowboarding event, with a leaderboard throughout the day and surfers periodically being eliminated from the event.

There will also be longboard and bodyboard elements to the day.

Urbnsurf will also host the Vans Stab High surfing event later this month.

The event will feature elite aerial surfers from around the world who will be vying to land the biggest and most creative aerials possible for significant cash prizes.

The 2020 Melbourne Pool Party is on Sunday, March 15, noon-10pm.

Vans Stab High is on Saturday, March 21, noon-6pm. Tickets are $60 for general admission, $200 for VIP and kids 13 and under are free.
