Big day for small stars

Alex enjoys the junior cinema at Sunshine Pic Marco De Luca

A cinema designed by children for children has opened in Sunshine in time for the school holidays.

Built for children aged three to 10 years, Vjunior features a play area in the foyer, and two cinemas specifically designed for kids.

The new cinema opened in Sunshine last week and features a slide in the interactive play area and a range of different seating options, including bean bags, lounges and traditional seats.

Village Cinemas sales and marketing general manager Mohit Bhargava said the cinema turns the movie-going experience on its ear.

“Vjunior offers a unique and child-friendly cinema experience that traditional theatres cannot provide – combining two things that kids love, movies and play,” he said.

“It’s the complete child-friendly cinema with modified volumes and lighting levels, a shorter pre-show, and an intermission allowing for additional socialising, snack and bathroom breaks.”

Mr Bhargava said Village’s Southland, Knox and Fountain Gate sites each have a successful Vjunior cinema, which made the decision to introduce the concept to Sunshine an easy one.

“We have been overwhelmed by the success of Vjunior and looking forward to extending this offering across more locations,” he said.

“Sunshine has a high family segment attending Village Cinemas, so it was a logical choice.”

While the cinema offers children a different movie going experience, it also makes life easier for parents.

“Vjunior alleviates ‘pain points’ for many families that go to the movies, including reduced queue times, a dedicated kid’s
menu with healthy options, which includes coffee available for mum and dad, and an intermission allowing children to play and take snack and bathroom breaks,” Mr Bhargava said.

Vjunior will be showing a variety of family movies over the school holidays including

Peter Rabbit (opening March 22), A Wrinkle In Time (March 29), Sherlock Gnomes (March 29) and Early Man (March 29).
