A world-class barista is coming to Brimbank to teach young people the art of coffee making.
The Brimbank Bicycle Education Centre in Keilor Downs has hired bean guru Lachlan McKenzie to lead a three-day barista course designed to give young people skills that will make them job-ready.
People undertaking the course will learn how to operate a commercial espresso machine, about work health and safety issues, and how to find work in the hospitality industry.
It’s the first time the centre has run the course, primarily aimed at young unemployed, and places are limited to a dozen.
Bicycle centre president David Bennett advised people to get in early if they want to enrol.
“First in best dressed,” he said.
Taylors Lake Secondary College teacher Sarah Ralph will become a student again after she was one of the first people to enrol.
In conjunction with the Bicycle centre, Ms Ralph will then conduct her own barista course with Taylors Lakes VCAL students, starting in term one next year. Her course will be held outside regular schooling.
