Ballarat line part of network overhaul

Works across the Ballarat rail line have begun.

Work began on March 22 and will continue through until March 31 between Deer Park and Wendouree before a network-wide construction blitz starts in April.

Public Transport Victoria chief executive Jeroen Weimar said it was vital passengers planned ahead.

“We’re making sure everyone can continue to enjoy the best that Melbourne has to offer while we get on with the transport projects our network needs,” Mr Weimar said.

“These essential works will pave the way for the larger April upgrades, including the much-anticipated Metro Tunnel, level-crossing works and High Capacity Metro Trains.

“I want to thank passengers for their patience over the next two months as we upgrade our rail network.”

Replacement buses will be provided so people can get to events such as the AFL, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.

The upgrades are part of the state government’s $40 million-plus investment into Victoria’s transport infrastructure.
