It was back to the classroom for more than one million students across Victoria last week, and for 28 preps at Albion North Primary School it was the first of many first days back.
Across the state, 1566 government, 499 Catholic and 230 independent schools returned last week, with more than 77,000 students beginning secondary school with a similar number also diving into prep.
Albion North Primary School teacher Lee-Anne Veteha said pupils were jumping for joy as they started back in the classroom.
“Our students are most excited about face-to-face learning, getting back into a school routine, catching up with their friends and exploring new learning opportunities,” she said.
“I’m most excited about watching our students grow, problem solve, develop thinking skills, collaborate, communicate and develop a positive sense of self.”
Ms Lee-Anne Veteha said the teachers were just as excited as the children to be back at school.
“The teachers are feeling excited to be back at school, especially without any COVID-19 restrictions allowing teachers to plan with certainty,” she said.
Education Minister and Sydenham MP Natalie Hutchins was out visiting a number of schools last week to welcome students new and old into the classrooms.
“I’d like to wish every student returning to school this week the best of luck in the coming year – it’s an exciting time filled with new friends, learning and experiences that shape you forever,” she said.
“More students than ever have the facilities and first-class education they deserve… ensuring Victoria remains the education state.”
