It’s never too early to learn to swim.

That is the message coming from a new swimming school in Deer Park specifically aimed at babies and toddlers, with children as young as three months old taking the plunge.

JUMP swim school manager and teacher Jakob Lawler said the centre was the only one of its kind in the area.

“We are quite unique in what we do,” Mr Lawler said.

“To have such an intimate environment which the young ones thrive off … is like nothing else I’ve ever seen around Melbourne.

“We specialise in babies and toddlers, but we do have other learn-to-swim classes for older children.”

He said the importance of getting children comfortable around water at a young age could not be underestimated.

“The whole thing with fear of the water starts at a young age, so to build courage is extremely important,” he said.

“A lot of what we do is building courage and having the kids learn without realising that they’re learning.

“It’s quite a fun environment and the more fun kids have, the better swimmers they will become.”

The school currently has 110 enrolments, with spaces still available for children three months old and above, and their parents.
